HEREFORD INLET LIGHTHOUSE is the
subject of a new book titled "Guardians of Hereford Inlet."
The book describes the history of the lighthouse as well as the
Anglesea Lifesaving Station and the US Coast Guard Life Boat Station
No. 133. The Hereford Inlet Lighthouse, which stands in North
Wildwood and overlooks the inlet and Atlantic Ocean, was constructed
in 1873 in response to hundreds of shipwrecks in the area. To
this day Hereford Inlet, which lies between North Wildwood and Stone
Harbor, and separates the Atlantic Ocean from the Intracoastal
Waterway, is known as a difficult area to navigate, due to shifting
channels and strong tidal flows.
